Taylor Wimpey submits three planning applications to Midlothian Council

Taylor Wimpey East Scotland has submitted three Applications for Matters Specified in Conditions (AMSCs) to Midlothian Council to progress the development of the new Bannock Wood neighbourhood near Bonnyrigg.

This trio of applications marks a significant milestone in the progression of this exciting new residential development in Midlothian.

The AMSC applications outline the detailed plans for the infrastructure required to support the Bannock Wood development, as well as a programme of grouting, and the first of the residential applications for over 360 new homes in a mix of two, three, and four-bedroom private homes designed to cater to a wide range of buyers including 25% affordable two and three bedroom homes, one and two bedroom apartments and cottage flats.

Once consents and technical approvals are in place, the first phase of construction is anticipated to begin later this year, bringing the vision of Bannock Wood closer to reality.

As Bannock Wood, Bonnyrigg progresses, there will be a substantial range of benefits for the local community. These include:

  • The creation of around 1,000 new properties with a choice of detached, semi-detached and terraced homes to appeal to a wide range of potential homebuyers.
  • Provision of open space and community facilities.
  • 25% affordable homes and apartments
  • New cycleways, pedestrian footpaths, and the realignment of some parts of the existing bridleway and core path will encourage green, active travel throughout the development and connect with the existing local communities.
  • Little Wood will be protected and enhanced to create a green corridor across the development. Paths outside and along the edge of the woods will link to its existing informal paths.
  • Key transport infrastructure improvements will include two new roundabouts at A6094/Rosewell Road and B6392/Burnbrae Terrace, and a bus route will be facilitated through the development.
  • A new public park, Dalhousie Chesters Park, will be established, including an equipped play area.

Pauline Mills, technical director at Taylor Wimpey East Scotland, said: “We are pleased to be able to submit our AMSC planning applications for Bannock Wood to Midlothian Council. This is a crucial step in delivering our vision to create a vibrant new neighbourhood that will significantly benefit the local community.

“We look forward to working towards a positive outcome on each of our three applications with Midlothian Council and starting construction on the first phase of homes at the development later this year.

“Furthermore, with planning consent now in place for the roundabout at Rosewell Road, ground stabilisation works in preparation for this key infrastructure improvement will begin in the next few weeks. It’s an exciting time as the vision to create a new neighbourhood at Bannock Wood progresses.”
