Day one – 20th November 2024
Opening the conference on day one is Nicola Harcus, Assistant Director of Regulation at the Scottish Housing Regulator.
Nicola’s keynote address will look at tenant & resident safety KPI’s and gaining assurance of compliance. The session will include time for Q&As, giving attendees an invaluable opportunity to have their questions answered by the Regulator.
Nicola is part of the team responsible for the delivery of regulatory functions by monitoring, assessing and reporting on the performance of social landlords.
As part of her role, Nicola is responsible for leading a team who regulate a portfolio of RSLs and local authorities and also leads on SHR’s approach to the Scottish Social Housing Charter which helps to improve the quality and value of services provided by social landlords in Scotland.
Nicola also has 14 years’ experience working within the housing sector.
Day two – 21st November 2024
The keynote address on the second day of our conference will be delivered James Clark, Senior Policy Advisor (Fire & Rescue Unit) – Scottish Government.
James’s session will look at the Housing (Cladding Remediation) (Scotland) Bill and what this will mean for social housing providers, as well as fire risk assessor competency and the importance of life safety.
James is a seasoned professional currently seconded to the Scottish Government for the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service (SFRS). As a senior policy officer within the Fire and Rescue Unit, part of the Safer Communities Division, James provides invaluable legislative, technical, and operational support and advice to the Scottish Government.
Currently, James is involved with cladding remediation, fire risk assessor competency, legislation and practical fire safety guidance.
With a rich background in fire and rescue operations, James brings a wealth of experience to his role and his expertise is instrumental in shaping policies and initiatives aimed at enhancing public safety and resilience across Scotland.
