Tenant rights and targeted advice placed centre stage at conference
People from across Ayrshire descended on Prestwick to find out more about the hot topics facing the private rented sector.
South Ayrshire Council hosted a one-day conference at Prestwick Academy in partnership with East and North Ayrshire councils.
The Private Rented Sector Tenant’s Conference attracted more than 60 people who came to learn more about private rented tenancies from Shelter Scotland; energy efficiency from Home Energy Scotland; deposit processes from Safe Deposit Scotland, developments in Universal Credit from DWP; and top tips on home safety from Scottish Fire and Rescue.
Councillor Philip Saxton, South Ayrshire Council’s portfolio holder for housing and customer services, said the event had been a success: “With delegates travelling from across Ayrshire to take part, this informative event inspired constructive discussions between a broad range of interested people and organisations.
“Bringing everyone together under one roof helped to raise awareness about important issues facing tenants today, provided practical advice, and helped to build local networks between like-minded people.
“I’d like to thank everyone who came along on the day for their valuable contributions and for all those who worked behind the scenes to help stage the event.”
