Tenants ‘at the heart’ of Caledonia’s Letham housing plans
Caledonia Housing Association has suggested that its multi-million-pound regeneration of a section of a Perth housing estate will produce high quality homes, tackle anti-social behaviour and improve the community.
The £5 million project aims to build 15 new homes and refurbish 69 houses in Newhouse Road, Letham, over a phased three-year period.
Following a consultation period, residents showed strong support for Caledonia Housing Association’s regeneration proposals, despite the disruption the work should cause over the next three years.
The association said they have been keen to discuss this with residents and will seek to minimise the work’s impact.
During the consultation in 2014, tenants from Newhouse Road reaffirmed the need for the regeneration of the area.
This regeneration scheme follows on from the recent announcement of the final phase of the £40m regeneration of Muirton in Perth, of which Caledonia have played a major role.
A spokesman for Caledonia Housing Association told The Courier: “Significant investment for the Newhouse Road regeneration will cost around £5m.
“Dedicated Caledonia staff will be on site and will be contacting all tenants to determine their housing needs and any special requirements.
“A phased series of works is planned and tenants who require to be decanted will be contacted and our dedicated team of staff will there to provide support in such instances.”
Julie Cosgrove, chief executive of Caledonia Housing Association, said: “Tenants are at the heart of everything we do and all tenants and residents affected by these proposals will be fully informed to help make the whole process stress-free and uncomplicated.
“I believe this regeneration strategy is the best way to ensure we can bring the changes people have told us they want to the area, including more high-quality housing, tackling anti-social behaviour and improving the community.”
She added: “Dedicated officers will be available to support tenants through the whole moving process where they will receive timely, one-to-one advice on their housing needs and options as well as financial support and advice from on-site Caledonia staff, notice boards and consultation.
“This is an exciting time for Caledonia Housing – our plans recognise the need to provide new homes, invest in our existing homes and to support vibrant communities. I hope the community engage with this process so that we can reach solutions that meet their needs and reinvigorate the Newhouse Road community.”
Work is to begin later this year once the main contractor has been appointed.
