Tenants delighted with new affordable homes in Anniesland

Partick Housing Association (PHA) has completed and launched its new 46-home development at Bearsden Road in Anniesland.

Members of Glasgow City Council made a visit this week as the new development in the west of the city was officially handed over.

Local councillors along with colleagues from Glasgow City Council’s Neighbourhoods, Regeneration and Sustainability department (NRS), were met by representatives from Partick Housing Association and contractors CCG who led the delivery of the project over an 18-month programme.

This major boost of affordable new housing supply in the west of the city includes a mix of one and two-bedroom flats and mix of social rented and mid-market rent homes.

Councillor Kenny McLean, convener for housing at Glasgow City Council, said: “It’s great to see this fantastic development reach completion. These social and mid-market-rent flats in Anniesland, will meet the needs of a range of people and bring new life to this site beside the canal. These are much-needed homes in this part of the city, and the council was delighted to support this development, which I’m sure will be a great place to live.”

Partick Housing Association’s chair, Helen Turner, said: “We’re thrilled to be marking the completion of our latest development. These wonderful new flats have transformed a vacant site and provided much-needed quality affordable homes in the West of Glasgow.”

Partick Housing Association’s chief executive, Stewart MacKenzie, added: “Thanks to the council, our funders, other partners and the community for their support at Bearsden Road. These new homes will transform the lives of everyone who moves in.”

The development is made up of two blocks of flats reaching five storeys, offering a renewed sense of frontage to Bearsden Road and Crow Road and iconic gateway to Anniesland. It includes resident parking and outdoor amenity space complete with public art, while creating a new pedestrian and cycle path next to the vibrant Forth & Clyde Canal.

CCG managing director, David Wylie, said: “CCG is delighted with the development at Bearsden Road. The complete project represents six years of hard work; from acquisition to concept, design and delivery, the process has been led by CCG in partnership with Partick Housing Association alongside MAST Architects. It shows how collaboration and partnership working can unlock challenging sites to deliver much-needed affordable housing and the results speak for themselves as it is a great addition to this buoyant West End community.”

The £10 million development provides desirable, affordable new homes in the West of Glasgow financed by Partick Housing Association, together with grant funding from Glasgow City Council.

The completion of the new homes coincided with Scottish Housing Day 2024, which raises awareness of successes in Scotland’s housing sector.
