Tenants display top gardening skills in North Lanarkshire
Green-fingered tenants kept North Lanarkshire blooming over the summer months showcasing their colourful creations as part of this year’s ‘NL in Bloom’ competition.
From shared green spaces and fruit and vegetable areas to bowling green lawns and bursts of colourful flowers, an array of gardening expertise was presented to our judges.
This year’s completion, which ran from May until the end of August, saw an increase in the number of entries, particularly first-time entries, which were either self-nominated, nominated by housing staff or by people living in the local community.
This year winners, individual and communal, were selected from each locality with special commendations awarded in recognition of the positive impact many gardens have in their local areas. It was often difficult to pick just one winner! A list of winners for each area is included below.
Due to the number of entries received, housing staff compiled a shortlist of garden entries. All shortlisted gardens were visited by a judging panel made up of representatives from North Lanarkshire Federation of Tenants and Residents. The judges took to the road to see the gardens first-hand, before discussing the entries and making their difficult final decision.
The winners gathered together at a celebration event to receive their trophies.
Tracy Lennon, tenant participation manager, said: “Every year we say we’re blown away by the standard and level of entries for the ‘NL in Bloom’ awards and this year was no different.
“We had the privilege of not only seeing some exceptional floral displays, but also hearing the stories behind the gardens and speaking to the tenants who spend an incredible amount of time and effort creating beautiful gardens. A huge well done to our winners!
“I want to thank everyone that makes our awards event such a success and to North Lanarkshire Federation of Tenants and Residents which continues to provide our tenant participation team with fantastic support not just during these awards but throughout the year.”
