Fife Council’s commitment to providing high-quality, affordable housing continues, as tenants move into 33 brand-new council homes at the former Pitcorthie Primary School site on Aberdour Road, Dunfermline.

Built by Robertson Construction Eastern on behalf of Robertson Partnership Homes, the development comprises a mix of one and two-bedroom bungalows, including two fully wheelchair adapted properties. Additionally, a community hub house has been built to support local engagement and services.

These much-needed homes form part of Fife Council’s Affordable Housing Programme, which continues to provide vital housing options for residents, including Retirement Housing for older people. The delivery of these 33 homes has been supported by grant funding of £2.62m from the Scottish Government’s Affordable Housing Supply Programme.

Councillor Judy Hamilton, Fife Council’s Spokesperson for Housing and Building Services, recently visited the site and expressed her delight with the progress made, particularly in the context of the ongoing housing emergency.

She said: “I am delighted to meet tenants moving into their new homes in Pitcorthie. In the face of a housing emergency, Fife Council remains committed to delivering much-needed council homes through our ambitious Affordable Housing Programme. Every new home provides a warmer, healthier environment that improves the wellbeing of our tenants, while also creating jobs and apprenticeships that support the construction industry and our local economy.”

New tenants, Mr and Mrs Young, who recently moved into one of the properties, shared their joy at finding a home that perfectly suits their needs. They said: “Moving here has been life-changing for us. The peace and quiet is wonderful, and being closer to our family means we have the support we need. Our new home is easy to heat, the kitchen is lovely, and the bathroom is perfect. We finally feel safe and settled, and it’s great to be near local amenities, including the doctors. Everything about this move has been a positive change for us.”

The new homes in Kennoway

Tenants have also begun moving into a newly completed affordable housing development in Kennoway near Leven.

Homes at both developments have been constructed to energy-efficient designs, with high-performance insulation, windows, sprinklers and modern heating systems to reduce running costs while supporting local communities with affordable housing. Additionally, the homes feature PV panels.

Split into two phases, the first part of the Kennoway development completed in December, providing 43 high-quality homes on the site of a former school. Homes include a mix of detached and semi-detached properties of various sizes, alongside single-storey amenity and wheelchair-accessible bungalows.

The second phase of the development, which will add 20 more homes, is currently underway and is expected to complete at the end of the year.

Both developments form part of Fife Council’s Affordable Housing Programme, one of the largest social house-building programmes in the UK. In total, Robertson is contracted to deliver seven projects for Fife Council as part of its ambitious delivery of new homes across the region.

The developments follow on from 17 new homes in Cupar, handed over by Robertson ahead of programme in December 2023.

Fife Council’s Affordable Housing Programme not only provides much-needed homes but also supports the local economy by generating employment and training opportunities within the construction sector. The programme’s long-term commitment ensures that more families and individuals will benefit from secure and high-quality housing in the years to come.
