Tenants’ union says it’s ‘time for tenants to have a voice’
Living Rent, Scotland’s tenants’ union, has appealed to Glasgow renters to help tenants speak with a “collective voice”, the Evening Times reports.
Craig Paterson, a member of the union, told the paper that the “tragedy of Grenfell Tower highlights the urgent need for tenants to be organised and capable of direct action” to hold landlords to account.
He added: “According to Glasgow City Council’s own census data from 2015, over half the homes in the city are now rented. The need for a tenants’ union has never been more urgent.”
A launch meeting has been organised for those interested in joining Living Rent on Saturday 29 July, 1pm, at the Pearce Institute in Govan.
