Upper Achintore in Fort William

A trio of developments from The JR Group have made it to the shortlist of this year’s Homes for Scotland Awards.

The building and construction firm has been shortlisted across two categories – both Affordable Development of the Year (medium) and Affordable Development of the Year (small).

The JR Group team is moving forward this year with its Upper Achintore (Phase 1) in Fort William in partnership with Link Group, Glasgow Road in Stirling, and for McQueen Way, also in Stirling.

Upper Achintore in Fort William, which was delivered by The JR Group on behalf of Link Group, has previously been labelled ‘truly transformative’ in bringing to fruition a nationwide ambition to help grow and sustain rural communities in the Highlands - is a development of 82 new energy efficient homes and has been shortlisted in the Affordable Development of the Year (medium).

Both Glasgow Road and McQueen Way developments located in Stirling have been selected for the Affordable Development of the Year (small up to 35 homes) category.

Andrew Dallas, projects director for The JR Group, said: “We are absolutely thrilled to be shortlisted in this year’s Homes for Scotland Awards for not one, but three key developments – all of which we are incredibly proud of.

“As a member of Homes for Scotland, we strive to positively contribute to Scotland’s social and economic growth, through our delivery of social housing developments across the country. These awards really showcase the varied work of the membership, and we are delighted to be recognised amongst the best in the business.

“We very much look forward to the awards lunch and to finding out the winners across the board.”

The interior of a home at Meadowood

Also shortlisted at the 2025 Homes for Scotland Awards is Meadowood, a new residential development by Briar Homes.

This Private Development of the Year (Small) recognition highlights the development’s exceptional design and energy efficiency, enhancing the already close-knit Garthamlock community.

Nestled in the heart of Garthamlock on Tillycairn Drive, Meadowood offers just 22 thoughtfully designed homes, creating an intimate neighbourhood ideal for first-time buyers, young families and downsizers. The development features spacious three-bedroom terraced, semi-detached, and detached homes, each with private gardens and parking.

Designed for modern family living, each of the 22 homes is highly energy-efficient, achieving a B energy rating to help reduce running costs. Each home includes a split heating system, solar PV panels, double-glazed windows, and enhanced insulation. The properties also meet green mortgage specifications, allowing buyers to benefit from lender incentives for sustainable homes.

Paul Kelly, managing director at Briar Homes Ltd, said: “Briar Homes’ goal with Meadowood was to create a community of impressive, bespoke family homes in the growing Garthamlock area—where families can thrive both inside their homes and within the surrounding green spaces.

“It’s rewarding to see the hard work of everyone involved—from planners and architects to builders, sales representatives, and interior designers—being recognised by Homes for Scotland. This nomination underscores Briar Homes’ strengths as an independent housebuilder, delivering high-quality developments tailored to local homebuyers’ needs.”

The Homes for Scotland Awards celebrate excellence in Scottish homebuilding, recognising projects that set new standards in design, quality, and sustainability. The winners will be announced at the prestigious awards ceremony on Friday 30 May.
