Thistle Housing Association hosts winter events for Toryglen community
Delighted residents of the Toryglen community were delivered a week full of Christmas events by their social landlord Thistle Housing Association.
All generations came together in the south side of Glasgow to celebrate with five events over a seven-day period.
Parents and children enjoyed multiple events including, a family Christmas ‘Home Alone’ movie night with candy floss and popcorn stalls, an Elf workshop with Santa and Mrs Claus as well as a bus trip into the centre of Glasgow to see the panto ‘Cinderella’.
Miss Robertson said: “This year has been brilliant for the area. As a single mum, I’m so pleased that Thistle Housing Association is doing so much in the community, particularly for kids.
“The winter events were fantastic, from the Christmas movie night, Elf workshop to the panto, all my friends and family had an amazing time. I think as tenants, we have been really lucky.”
Other events included the movie showing of ‘It’s a Wonderful Life’ as well as a pensioners’ festive luncheon with entertainment. The Associations’ community hall was decorated fully for all events.
Mrs Martin added: “The events were wonderful, particularly the Luncheon. It was lovely, we had a great time. I met lots of my old neighbours and there were lots of new faces. It was such a fantastic opportunity to get together. A lot of hard work has obviously gone into everything. Thank you to Thistle for such an amazing effort.”
Thistle Housing Association chairperson, Brenda Wilson, said: “It has been an amazing week for the community. Over 480 residents participated during the events, from nursery children right through to our most elderly. The feedback from everyone has been truly wonderful. This was all only possible due to the dedication and hard work from all our staff who volunteered their time in the evenings and weekends and made it happen.
“This opportunity has been invaluable in our work toward building a stronger relationship with our customers through good old fashioned fun and laughter. Personally, I can’t wait to see what they do next year.”
