Top marks in inspection for Dundee community living service
A housing support service for adults with a learning disability in Dundee has been given top marks after a recent inspection by a care watchdog.
Dundee Community Living, which provides a housing support/care at home service across the city, was awarded “excellent” grades in all three categories looked at the Care Inspectorate.
Run by Dundee City Council the service supports adults with a learning disability to live in their own tenancies and be part of their local community. It provides 24 hour support across six community houses.
Over the last year the focus has been on improving outcomes for tenants through workforce development and partnership working.
The service has benefited from Dundee City Council’s investment in developing leadership skills and qualities in the workforce with team members becoming “champions” in various fields.
According to the Care Inspectorate’s report the quality of care and support, quality of staffing and quality of management and leadership were all graded at level six or excellent.
Ken Lynn, convener of Dundee City Council’s social work and health committee, said: “This service makes a huge difference to the quality of people’s lives and for it to be graded so highly is a testament to the great work done by the staff.
“In less than a year the people who deliver the service have worked even harder to get two of the grades up from a ‘very good’ to achieve ‘excellent’ status across the board.”
The full inspection report will be considered by the social work committee which meets on February 22.
