Triple jump success for ng homes trainee
A Commonwealth trainee at ng homes has won gold at the Men’s League Championships in Aberdeen confirming him as Scotland’s number one triple jumper.
Joseph Amouzou, a former pupil at Bellahouston Academy’s Glasgow School of Sport, triumphed in the Men’s League Under 20s category recording a distance of 14.17 metres beating his closest rivals who jumped 13.89 metres and 13.63 metres.
Joseph said: “I am thrilled to have won the gold medal. The men’s league is a tough competition and my competitors pushed me hard. My ultimate aim is to compete for Scotland at the Commonwealth Games in the Gold Coast in 2018 and my preparations for that can only be helped now that I am number one in Scotland.”
The 19-year-old’s sports career came about by chance when his mum took him to a sports event in Glasgow and he was spotted by a talent scout which led him to the Glasgow School of Sport.
Away from track and field Joseph is one of a team of Commonwealth trainees at ng homes who have recently completed their CIH Level II qualifications in Housing and he is currently studying for an SVQ, also in Housing.
On his role at ng homes, Joseph said: “I love my apprenticeship with ng homes. Every day is different and I’m always busy and learning everything from communications to housing to construction. I’m also helping the community by volunteering through the ng sports legacy programme, its really satisfying work.”
CEO of ng homes, Robert Tamburrini, said: “We are absolutely delighted that Joseph has won a gold medal in the triple jump and we will continue to support him as he works hard towards his ultimate goal of competing at the next Commonwealth Games.”
Joseph was also one of a group of trainees from across Scotland who took part in the SFHA’s Apprentice Challenge earlier this year.
