Trust HA to open innovative development in Kirkintilloch
An affordable housing development in Kirkintilloch is to be opened by Trust Housing Association and East Dunbartonshire Council next week.
The five-year project is culminating in the opening of the 40-unit mid-market rent development on Wednesday 22 April. The development was completed through a partnership of Trust Housing, East Dunbartonshire Council, the Scottish Government, Ogilvie Homes and the entire consultancy team.
The homes will be offered to households with modest incomes who want to rent a new home in the long-term, with rent levels below the market rent for the area.
Pam Russell, chair of the Trust Board, said: “This is a different way of working for Trust and was an excellent opportunity for us to venture into new and exciting areas. It seems more than appropriate to have an official opening to celebrate the hard work and dedication from our staff team.”
Cllr Ashay Ghai, depute leader of East Dunbartonshire Council and convenor of neighbourhood services, added: “East Dunbartonshire Council purchased 25 flats. As well as a great view and quality housing, tenants are benefitting from a central location. The flats were allocated to applicants on the Councils housing waiting list, existing tenants of East Dunbartonshire Council and those experiencing homelessness.
“We have been working with Trust since 2011 on this project, first securing Innovation and Investment Funding to make this site possible. Many companies were unwilling to take this site forward due to the challenging nature of the site, but thankfully, through hard work and determination by all, a high quality development is now complete – demonstrating what effective partnerships can achieve.”
