Trust Housing marks golden era with celebration
Mission Place in Motherwell was the location for a special celebration event organised by Trust Housing to mark its 50th year providing housing and services across local communities.
The party at Mission Place is just one of a number of get-togethers planned by Trust to mark its special birthday. Tenants and staff enjoyed a celebratory lunch, some birthday cake and an afternoon of friendship and chat.
Established in 1973 and born out of a philanthropic movement, Trust has over 3,600 homes across the length and breadth of Scotland, with Mission Place, in Motherwell, opening in 2006.
North Lanarkshire Provost, Kenneth Duffy, attended the event together with North Lanarkshire Council’s housing convener, Councillor Michael McPake.
Provost Duffy said: “It’s always a pleasure to be welcomed to celebratory events like this one and be part of what is a very special anniversary for Trust. From speaking to residents and staff it’s clear to see the positive difference Trust is making to the lives of the people who live here in Mission Place and in the local community.
“We continue to work in partnership with Trust and wish them every success for their future and the delivery of homes and care across North Lanarkshire.”
Trust’s growth included a partnership with Wishaw and District Housing Association (WDHA) in 2019, which saw WDHA become part of Trust. The partnership with WDHA means that around a third of Trust homes are now located in the area.
Additionally, this partnership recently delivered, together with North Lanarkshire Council, the Scottish Government and McTaggart Construction, 42 new energy efficient, social rented flats for general needs households, in the heart of Wishaw. The project has supported the regeneration of Wishaw town centre and contributed to the supply of affordable housing in North Lanarkshire.
Rhona McLeod, Trust’s CEO, added: “Trust has been delivering affordable homes and exceptional care for five decades. We have significantly grown and evolved since 1973 but we have stayed true to our purpose and values throughout this time. We’re looking forward to celebrating our 50th with customers and colleagues across the country over the coming months. Given the current economic environment, we have been very cost sensitive and we have allocated a modest budget for our 50th and re-brand.”
