Union Technical has been selected as an approved supplier to a major new public sector retrofit and decarbonisation framework, placing the Glasgow-based energy services business at the forefront of Scotland’s drive towards a greener, more sustainable built environment.
Developed by the LHC Procurement Group and managed in Scotland by the Scottish Procurement Alliance (SPA), the framework is valued at £660m UK-wide and enables over 100 local authorities, social landlords, and other public sector bodies across the country to access high-quality retrofit and energy efficiency services.
Following a competitive tender process, Union Technical has been appointed to Lots 2 and 5 in Scotland. Lot 2 focuses on specialist energy efficiency consultancy services and Lot 5 covers the direct delivery of retrofit works including insulation, heating and ventilation and solar PV.
Michael Sweeney, director and co-founder of Union Technical, said: “This is a significant milestone for our business and reflects the strength of our expertise in delivering high-quality, complex projects for a wide range of customers.
“We’re proud to support local authorities and public bodies across Scotland in their efforts to reduce fuel poverty and meet net-zero targets.”
Founded 10 years ago, Union Technical has grown to become a leading UK provider of energy services, providing housing associations, tenants, and private homeowners with comprehensive retrofitting measures that make homes warmer, more sustainable and cheaper to heat. It has also developed its own whole-house, patented Smarter Homes approach, creating a new industry-leading and innovative way to upgrade homes.
Its current projects range from retrofitting 65 homes in Balintore, in the Highlands, to working on 970 properties managed by Govan Housing Association, helping tenants to benefit from lower energy bills.
Union Technical’s success in the new public sector retrofit and decarbonisation framework positions the business as a key partner in the delivery of Scotland’s national decarbonisation strategy. Following its appointment, it is now poised to deliver end-to-end solutions across a range of public sector building types, including social housing, care homes, community facilities, and public offices.
Owen Coyle, co-founder and director, Union Technical, added: “We look forward to contributing to the decarbonisation of Scotland’s public buildings, and delivering meaningful social value in the communities we serve.
“Through skills training, local employment opportunities, and community benefit initiatives, we aim to make a lasting impact.”
