Lady Anne Dalton

Having gained considerable experience of military service travelling with her husband during his service for many years, Lady Dalton is delighted to be joining the board of a charity that she feels goes above and beyond to help those who have served their country. 

She said: “Everyone has a right to have a roof over their head however because of disability, day-to-day living can be challenging. The team at Veterans Housing Scotland goes to incredible lengths to support its beneficiaries. I am looking forward enormously to learning more from my fellow Trustees and from the beneficiaries themselves. 

“My own life experience spans from a very ordinary beginning to moving around various bases with my husband which allowed me to meet a wide range of military personnel and their families. Most recently we spent five years on Jersey where I was honoured to work with some very small, local charities and saw at first-hand how much they are needed. I loved meeting people and chatting over a cup of coffee about their challenges. Learning and understanding about the difference that the charities made to their lives was truly considerable.  We do have a wonderful voluntary sector.”

David Boe, national chairman, Royal British Legion Scotland, has also joined the organisation as an Ambassador.

His own military service included 17th Lancers serving in Northern Ireland followed by six years in the TA before joining the Royal British Legion in 1988.  He has personal experience of the challenges faced by those leaving the services today. When he left the Army he and his wife and baby lived with family until they could secure their own home.

In the early days of the charity (formerly Scottish Veterans Garden City Association) he was a member of a local committee and is still keen to help today.

He said: “The modern day veterans have exactly the same problems as I had in terms of housing. I am well aware of both the problems to be solved and the work of Veterans Housing Scotland.  I am delighted to be able to bring my experience to help VHS continue to support disabled veterans in Scotland.’

Bob Kemp, chairman of the board, added: “Veterans Housing Scotland has greatly adapted over the past few years. The needs of our veterans today continue to grow and therefore the support and experience of those on our Board and of our Ambassadors is vital in helping us keep pace with the challenges and the solutions. I am delighted to welcome both Lady Dalton and David and look forward to working with them.”
