Veterans Housing Scotland welcomes new Patron HRH The Princess Royal

Her Royal Highness The Princess Royal

Veterans Housing Scotland recently held a reception in the Great Hall at Edinburgh Castle to celebrate its 110th Anniversary.

The reception was attended by its newly named Patron, Her Royal Highness The Princess Royal.

HRH spent time meeting many of the veterans who live in VHS properties and heard their stories of life before and after moving into their forever home. She also met the staff who deliver the wrap around support which helps them live fulfilling lives.

Chairman, Group Captain Bob Kemp, welcomed Her Royal Highness and told guests how honoured he was to receive confirmation that she had accepted the charity’s invitation to become its new Patron following King George V, King George VI and the late Queen.

He went on to say: “Last year we set ourselves a target to increase our housing stock by 25 homes by 2025 by means of our Nominated Rights campaign and I am delighted to announce that we have hit this target. Our achievement is largely down to the support we receive from the many local authorities and housing associations across Scotland. Veterans’ Housing Scotland has developed numerous working partnerships with many organisations and companies and I would like to acknowledge and thank them for their invaluable support.”

Chief executive, Kevin Gray, added: “2025 is a very special year for VHS and to welcome Her Royal Highness to our reception was a great honour. HRH was very interested in our beneficiaries stories and how their lives have changed for the better since meeting Veterans Housing Scotland. We are privileged to be the caretakers of this wonderful charity ensuring that it will continue well into the future.”
