Video: Horizon highlights accessible housing campaign ahead of Dundee summit

A video that showcases Horizon Housing’s vital work to provide accessible housing and its campaign for health and social care providers to recognise the positive impact that accessible housing and adaptations can have on people’s wellbeing has been released ahead of the upcoming Housing & Social Care Accessibility Summit next month.

Horizon Housing (a partner in Link Group) and Scottish Housing News, with generous support from Campion Homes, are hosting a one-day summit at which leaders from across sectors will come together to

  • discuss how accessible housing can reduce pressure on social care and health services;
  • identify and debate new solutions to pressing issues;
  • explore new partnerships to support prevention and early intervention; and
  • produce practical recommendations for change.

The video, which includes case studies of people who are living more independently thanks to their suitable accommodation, highlights the potential public spending savings that can be generated by improving the accessibility of properties.

Aileen Neilson, a Paralympian and Accessibility Ambassador, shares how she believes accessible housing to be a human right and reveals that more than 170,000 wheelchair users in Scotland are currently living in unsuitable accommodation.

The Housing & Social Care Accessibility Summit will take place at the V&A Dundee on September 26th. For more information and a list of speakers, click here.

Tickets are available for £175 + booking fee via Eventbrite, or alternatively contact k.findlay@scottishnews.com to be invoiced for £145 + VAT directly from Scottish Housing News.
