Isaac and Adele found each other as a result of the partnership with East Renfrewshire-based Give a Dog a Bone… and an animal a home (GADAB).

At the outset of the joint working proposal, a tenants’ panel took place to discuss the proposal in detail - its practicalities, pitfalls and the benefits.

The proposal was agreed and criteria was set.

GADAB, who provide financial support to the over 60s to adopt a rescue pet companion, ensure that tenants and adoptees are well matched.

Adele said recently of the process: “Oh, I’m alive again. Thank you and God bless you for what you’ve done for me.”

Louise Russell, the charity’s founder, is a finalist for another nationwide award, the Animal Charity Award 2017 “Volunteer of the Year” and is delighted to be spreading the word about her charity through the partnership with Viewpoint.

Dorry McLaughlin, chief executive officer at Viewpoint, said: “We recognise that as people age they can feel lonely if their families are not nearby. They may not leave home as much which, in itself, can create increased isolation and can reduce fitness levels. Following consultation with some of the tenants, together we think we have an opportunity to create a little more ‘Joy in Later Years’ and I’m sure the adopted animals won’t complain. A matching service between older, rescued animals and older people makes perfect sense.”
