Views sought on East Dunbartonshire heat and energy efficiency strategy
East Dunbartonshire Council is calling on local residents, businesses and organisations living or operating in the area to have their say on a strategic approach to decarbonising heat and improving energy efficiency in buildings throughout the area.
The council has launched a consultation on its proposed Local Heat and Energy Efficiency Strategy (LHEES) and Delivery Plan which aims to support Scotland’s statutory targets for fuel poverty reduction and reaching net zero emissions.
The LHEES covers both domestic and non-domestic properties and is required to:
- Set out the changes required in the building stock to meet national objectives, such as tackling fuel poverty and achieving net zero greenhouse gas emissions
- Identify ‘heat decarbonisation zones’, how to reduce building emissions in each zone and potential heat network zones.
- Prioritise areas within East Dunbartonshire to meet local and national priorities.
The LHEES consultation runs from Tuesday 1 October to Tuesday 29 October 2024 and participants are being asked to read the proposals then complete a short online survey.
There is also an opportunity to have your say at an online consultation event on Wednesday 23 October 2024, from 2 - 4pm. To attend this event, please register your interest here.
Leader of the council, Councillor Gordan Low said, “We are encouraging everyone who lives or operates a business in East Dunbartonshire to take part in the LHEES consultation. We are also very keen to hear from landlords and housing associations.
“It is important this strategy is achievable and meets our local priorities as well as those set out at a national level so please take some time to read the proposals and complete the survey or register to attend our online event later this month where you can ask questions and share your thoughts with council officers.”
