Volunteers boost lifeline charity which supports Wheatley tenants
Volunteers from MAST Architects gave up their time for a charity which provides lifeline support for Wheatley Group tenants.
Kerry Clark, Morgan Milne and Ashley Shanks from the Glasgow-based firm helped out at the Starter Packs charity in a volunteering day organised by Wheatley Foundation.
Starter Packs provides essential household items such as crockery, toiletries, kettles and duvets for tenants moving into a new home. The volunteers helped sort donations and make up the packs at the charity’s offices in Govan.
Senior architect Kerry Clark said: “Volunteering for Starter Packs has brought home how meaningful our work designing new homes is and helped us learn a bit more about the people who benefit from them.”
Gavin Dunbar, general manager of Starter Packs, added: “Volunteers make a huge contribution to the work that Starter Packs Glasgow does week in, week out and it allows them to see the difference our service makes to the people we support.”
The volunteering days are part of a series of ‘Community Benefits’ events organised by the Foundation – the charitable arm of Wheatley Group – which use the skills of Wheatley’s contractors to directly benefit customers.
MAST Architects has offered work experience to Wheatley’s bursary students and will be providing digital workshops for customers this year.
Foundation director Lynne Mitchell said: “It’s always good to see Wheatley contractors step up to support people in our communities and we look forward to continuing to work with MAST to benefit our customers.”
Starter Packs is always looking for donations of household items. They can be contacted on 0141 440 1008 or by emailing administrator@starterpacks.org.uk.
