Volunteers sought to help the good times grow at Bield
Bield is highlighting the important role that volunteers can play in assisting older people to enjoy happy and fulfilled lives in West Lothian.
The housing and care provider’s Mansewood Court Retirement Housing development in Whitburn is looking for friendly and enthusiastic volunteers to spend a couple of hours each month helping out with either social activities or assisting in their garden.
The appeal comes as a result of the success of previous volunteering roles, which helped organise opportunities for social interaction within the development and the wider community and assisted tenants in planning a seasonal gardening programme.
Lynne McQueen, development manager at Mansewood Court, believes that these activities are vital for encouraging social interaction between tenants.
She said: “At Bield we are always looking for ways to enrich the lives of tenants and encouraging them to continue to pursue their hobbies is essential to our ‘free to be’ ethos.
“We are constantly striving to adapt, evolve and enhance the day-to-day activities available and we know that volunteers are key to ensuring that we can do this.”
Social Activity volunteers are required to assist with weekly Breakfast Clubs, held on Thursday from 9:30am-11:00am and weekly Lunch Clubs, held on Mondays from 11:00am to 1:30pm.
In the garden, Mansewood Court is searching for a flexible weekly commitment and hopes that volunteers will be able to support tenants all year round with light gardening duties.
Enquiries are welcome from people of all ages over 16. Full training and support will be given and out-of-pocket expenses paid.
Please apply online via jobs.bield.co.uk/ or contact development Manager Lynne McQueen on 01501 743 253.
