Warmworks makes help available to keep Western Isles homes warm
Energy efficiency specialist Warmworks has set up a new office in Stornoway ahead of delivering insulation support to homes across the Western Isles.
Warmworks will be responsible for administering the Heat and Energy Efficient Scotland: Area-Based Scheme (HEES:ABS) on behalf of Comhairle nan Eilean Siar.
Warmworks has more than eight years’ experience of installing energy efficiency improvements in more than 35,000 homes across Scotland, including across the Western Isles. This new scheme is targeted towards low-income households whose home has a low energy efficiency rating.
Since 2020, Warmworks has been delivering a similar Area-Based Scheme in Orkney. In the last year alone, it installed almost 240 energy efficiency improvements to more than 170 Orkney homes. This support has seen Orkney homeowners save an average of £728 against their annual energy bills.
Customers who qualify for the scheme will receive an initial survey of their home, which will be carried out by Warmworks’ qualified and local surveyors. After this, a bespoke package of insulation improvements will be offered that is aimed at helping homes optimise their energy efficiency for years to come.
Nicola McLeod, managing director of Warmworks’ Scotland Division, said: “We’re thrilled to be expanding our successful work in island communities to the Western Isles, in collaboration with Comhairle nan Eilean Siar.
“The launch of this scheme comes at an important time when we’re all starting to feel the colder temperatures hit and are thinking about how we keep ourselves warm at home. The energy efficiency improvements on offer through the scheme could not only help homes in the Western Isles to boost their heating this winter but could potentially help them save money against their energy bills too.
“We’d encourage anyone who thinks they might qualify for support to give us a ring on 01851 605 269 or visit our office at 13-15 Francis Street, Stornoway, HS1 2NB, and we can start things moving.”
Cllr Donald Crichton, the chair of Comhairle nan Eilean Siar’s Sustainable Communities Committee, said: “Warmworks has significant knowledge and a clear track record of helping homes in island communities to be warmer and more energy efficient. We’re pleased that they’re now expanding their work and bringing this knowledge to the Western Isles.
“It’s an important time for homeowners to consider how they keep themselves and their homes warm, with us now being in the coldest months of the year. The help available through the Heat and Energy Efficient Scotland: Area-Based Scheme sees a range of improvements on offer that could help boost homes’ insulation and energy efficiency, helping people on the islands to stay warm and cosy at home.
“Get in touch with Warmworks to find out if you can receive help through this new scheme.”
