Wear your slippers to work to help homeless children this Christmas
Shelter is calling on the British public to take part a slippers campaign in an effort to help the 100,000 children in Britain who will wake up homeless this Christmas.
On Friday 4th December, businesses across the country can support Slippers for Shelter and help tackle homelessness in three simple steps:
Whether it’s en route to the office, in a meeting, or lurking by the printers, the nation’s cosy toes will be going miles to help support the thousands of families facing homelessness. Many will be forced to spend Christmas in an emergency bed and breakfast or hostel, cramped into one cold, damp room, with no space for a tree, or even an oven to cook Christmas dinner.
Nationwide Building Society is among several businesses to kindly pledge its support for Slippers for Shelter, with employees across the country flashing their footwear to help homeless families this Christmas.
Bryce Glover, Nationwide’s divisional director of corporate affairs, said: “Our staff’s enthusiasm for Slippers for Shelter is as much to do with supporting a good cause this Christmas, as it is with the joy of padding around the office in comfy slippers the whole day.
“No child should be homeless at Christmas, and we are immensely proud of our staff for giving so generously, to help Shelter be there for the families struggling with bad housing and homelessness this Christmas.”
Campbell Robb, chief executive of Shelter, said: “Every child should have a place to call home – a safe and secure environment for them to play and learn, grow and thrive. The fact that over 100,000 children in Britain are facing homelessness this Christmas is a tragedy.
“Shelter’s advisers can make the difference between a family losing their home and keeping it, but we’re struggling to keep up with demand. We’re calling on businesses across the country to take part in Slippers for Shelter, to help us provide support and advice to the thousands of families struggling to keep a roof over their heads this Christmas.”
