Webinar to explore insights and challenges within rural Scotland’s PRS
Interested parties are being invited to join the UK Collaborative Centre for Housing Evidence (CaCHE) for a webinar exploring rural housing in Scotland, focusing on Argyll and Bute’s private rental sector.
The session forms part of a collaboration between Argyll and Bute Citizens Advice Bureau and Argyll and Bute Council following the largest study of its kind capturing perspectives from 350 rural private landlords.
The expert panel will discuss the importance of affordable, quality housing and its impact on Scotland’s rural communities, presenting research findings that highlight both the challenges and opportunities facing private renters and landlords.
Ashley Campbell, policy and practice manager at CIH Scotland will chair the webinar.
Douglas Whyte, strategic housing lead at Argyll and Bute Council will share the council’s perspective on the research, explaining why they chose to partner with Argyll and Bute CAB and the importance of addressing housing issues through cross-sector collaboration. He will also outline the council’s planned actions in response to the findings within the context of the ongoing housing emergency.
Dr John Boyle, director of research and strategy at Rettie will address the impact of legislation on Build-to-Rent (BTR) development in rural Scotland, underlining the vital role of small-scale private landlords.
Dr Andrew Robert Watson, lead researcher will present key data on the private rental sector (PRS) in Argyll and Bute, providing a closer look at the demographics and specific challenges facing this area. He’ll share the main concerns voiced by landlords and discuss the broader implications of these findings on policy-making.
Aoife Deery, senior policy officer at Citizens Advice Scotland (CAS) will discuss the research and how the findings support the work of CAS for a fairer Scotland.
The webinar takes place on Monday, 18th November at 11 AM.
