Wellhouse Housing Association invests £80,000 into future-proofing homes
Wellhouse Housing Association (WHA) has undertaken the part-demolition and rebuild of four local properties’ verandas totalling £80,000.
The essential works will ensure the homes are fit for the future and protect from the unpredictable Glasgow weather.
So far, improvements on three of the four two-storey houses have been completed, with the fourth expected to be finished within six weeks. Each of the homes in the East End of Glasgow have had their verandas removed and replaced with a pitched roof following issues with water ingress.
The community-led organisation has made several previous attempts at remedying the problem to avoid disruption to the family homes.
After consultation with residents, WHA concluded that the best approach was to demolish the verandas completely, rebuilding the façade of the buildings, including the installation of new double-glazed windows and a pitched roof.
Mrs Adamson, community member of WHA and resident in one of the homes, said: “The standard of work is fantastic. We’re really pleased that Wellhouse Housing Association went to the root of the problem to make sure this issue was fixed effectively and efficiently.”
Darron Brown, chair of Wellhouse Housing Association, added: “We always strive to provide the best living experiences for our residents so implementing the work on the four homes was the next logical step to ensure a great living environment.
“Community involvement is key, so it was great hear how pleased the tenants are with the results. We are all looking forward to having the fourth and final house completed shortly.”
