West Dunbartonshire Council housing team achieves quality standard
West Dunbartonshire Council’s building services team has achieved a quality standard for their work across the area’s homes.
The International Standard EN ISO 9001:2015 was awarded after audits were conducted at sites in Clydebank, Dumbarton, Alexandria and Bonhill earlier this year.
Auditors noted a “high level of knowledge and experience” in the team, and said work was being carried out to a high standard.
The council is one of a handful of organisations in Scotland to achieve the standard, which is more commonly gained by private house builders.
Councillor Iain McLaren, convener of infrastructure, regeneration and economic development, said: “This is wonderful news for West Dunbartonshire. It shows how ambitious our workforce team are, and means that residents can trust that they will be provided with a high quality product.”
Councillor Marie McNair, vice-convener for infrastructure, regeneration and economic development, added: “Auditors praised the high standard of work being carried out by the team across West Dunbartonshire, and achieving the quality standard will only ensure this continues.”
In Clydebank, auditors visited a property in Alsatian Avenue, where the team were working to refurbish and strengthen the structure.
They also went to the Overburn Depot in Dumbarton, where repair work is planned and carried out.
In Bonhill, they observed a project to refurbish a void property, and in Alexandria they observed work to build a store for waste bins and a concrete pathway.
The audit report stated: “Records of competency were reviewed and a high level of knowledge and experience was evident with newer staff being mentored. Conditions under which work was being carried out were to a high standard with a high priority being given to health and safety issues.
“Several examples of improvement projects have been given. In particular the already coherent documentary system will be made more efficient on the introduction of the electronic system and the proposed move away from paper copies.
“Communications and awareness are evidenced by tool box talks and team briefs. Customer focus and engagement are demonstrated in positive customer satisfaction surveys.”
