West Dunbartonshire Council is consulting local residents for their views on how the council allocates its homes.

The council is keen to hear residents’ views on a range of issues including the allocation of housing points and whether tenants should be encouraged to downsize if they live in a house with more bedrooms than required.

Residents are also being asked for their views on what should be classed as unsatisfactory housing conditions and if tenants suffering harassment and domestic abuse should be classed as a priority.

Councillor David McBride, convener of housing, said: “As a Council we are committed to improving local housing and protecting the welfare of vulnerable residents. I would encourage residents to take a couple of minutes and give us their views on the Council’s Allocations Policy.

“The survey looks at how we could improve our service to tenants and feedback will help us ensure the policy is fair and transparent in how we allocate homes. This is a great opportunity for residents to tell us what they think and help us create a model that works for everyone.”

Councillor Lawrence O’Neill, vice-convener of housing, added: “The survey is aimed at providing a system that helps those in need and at the same time, one that works for current and future tenants. We will use the feedback to introduce a policy that works fairly for all residents and offers help and assistance to people who need additional support.

“I believe that by updating the Allocation Policy and listening to our residents we can ensure our approaches continue to work for everyone.”
