West Granton Housing Co-op appoints new CEO
West Granton Housing Co-operative (WGHC) chairperson Lorna Brown has announced the appointment of Larke Adger as its new CEO.
Larke Adger took over from former chief executive Gerry Gillies who retired at the end of July.
Lorna Brown said: “We interviewed a very strong field of candidates who were all of an excellent standard but having completed both a rigorous and thorough recruitment process, we are confident that Larke is the right person for this post.
“In addition to the wealth of experience and skills required we believe we have a CEO who understands the ethos and values of the housing co-operative model and that Larke has the vision to take the Co-op forward. As chairperson, I very much look forward to working with Larke over the next year.”
Before her appointment, Larke was the housing manager and depute to the former CEO at West Granton Housing Co-op. She has worked in housing co-operatives for just over 17 years.
Larke said: “It’s a real privilege to be appointed CEO and company secretary for WGHC. Smaller housing associations can sometimes be overlooked or underestimated despite their excellent performance and high levels of tenant satisfaction. They are subject to the same regulations and legislation as all other social landlords but often have less resources to achieve the same outcomes.
“To meet such demands you often find within these organsiations there are high levels of commitment from both committee members and staff. The fully tenant-led Board ensures that the best interests of tenants remain central to the decision making process.
“I recognise there are challenging times ahead, but I am confident as always, WGHC can make the necessary changes. Through changes, stability is necessary, but I am also excited about taking WGHC forward, and exploring opportunities for joint working with some of the amazing agencies we are fortunate to have in our local area.”
