West Lothian Council completes first phase of 1,000-home development
West Lothian Council is building 1,000 new council homes across the county as part of a £111 million investment.
The site at Kirkhill in Broxburn will have 230 new council homes, making it the largest council house new development site to have been built in Scotland since 2009. The first phase was completed by Lovell Partnerships and tenants are now moving in.
The new houses will include a mixture of 92 cottage flats, 105 houses and 33 accessible bungalows and range from 1 bed flats to 5 bed houses.
Executive councillor for service to the community, George Paul, and council leader John McGinty joined council staff at Kirkhill to see the progress.
Councillor George Paul said: “West Lothian Council is one of the largest Local Authority house developers for rent in Scotland and we are very proud to be building so many new affordable homes in all areas of West Lothian.
“The project is also delivering community benefits including apprenticeships for local, young people and opportunities for local businesses. More importantly the 1,000 new homes will help alleviate the shortage of affordable housing in West Lothian and provide much needed housing for generations to come.”
Council leader John McGinty added: “The new homes look fantastic and we are delighted that tenants are now picking up their keys and moving in. This is the largest new build council housing site in Scotland and so many people, including local families, will benefit from these homes.”
