West Lothian volunteers honoured by Bield
Ten superstar volunteers have been acknowledged for their hard work and valued contributions towards enriching the lives of older people at an award ceremony as part of Volunteers Week, a national celebration of volunteering across Scotland.
The certificates were presented on Friday 1st June at Bield’s Stewart Court, a retirement housing development situated in West Calder, by local MSP Angela Constance.
Mary Cameron, local manager of Stewart Court, said: “It’s important that we take the time to reward the hard work, time and dedication that volunteers set aside for us.
“Special evenings like this ensure that we give them the recognition they deserve.”
Volunteers currently help out by organising a host of activities, such as befriending, arts and crafts, lunch clubs and a walking group.
Speaking highly of the award night, Mary added: “All the tenants and staff really enjoyed themselves.
“It means a lot to have our local MSP here, recognising the efforts on show, too.
“Everyone was very excited to meet Angela and show her around.”
The support of volunteers helps to meet the social needs of Bield’s tenants, assisting them to lead active, independent lifestyles in their later years.
Mary urges anyone who might be inspired to volunteer to come forward.
She said: “We are always on the lookout for new volunteers that want to get involved with us.
“Everyone looks after everyone here. We like to show our appreciation and gratitude to all volunteers, like we did through Friday’s event.
“The current team of volunteers are excellent. We are very lucky to have them.”
