West of Scotland Housing Association raises over £11k to support those affected by cancer diagnosis

WSHA team members visit Beatson Cancer Charity to present a cheque for £11,317
West of Scotland Housing Association has smashed previous fundraising totals in a fantastic year of activity raising money for Glasgow’s Beatson Cancer Charity.
The Beatson supports individuals and their families facing a cancer diagnosis with a comprehensive range of wellbeing and specialist services including complementary therapies, specialist health and work support and specialist activities delivered by charity staff and volunteers.
Throughout 2024, the West of Scotland HA team took part in a host of fundraising activities for the Beatson including: walking the 11-mile Edinburgh Kiltwalk, flying over the Clyde on a 100-meter zipslide, and taking the plunge with a wild swim at the end of October (post-swim tea and toasted marshmallows were compulsory!)
For those who preferred to stay warm and dry, the organisation also held a duvet day in November, where staff came into work in their jammies and enjoyed some free wellbeing therapy sessions – donating for the privilege of course. They rounded out the fundraising year with a bucket collection at the local Fort shopping centre, where the team wrapped up in winter woollies and Santa hats and entertained festive shoppers whilst collecting donations.
Throughout the year WSHA staff also volunteered at Beatson events across the country, including Glasgow’s TRNSMT Festival, Off the Beatson Track and the Santa Dash.
Brian Gannon, chief executive officer of WSHA, said: “All of us at WSHA are delighted to have raised this fantastic amount to support the indispensable work of the Beatson Cancer Charity. Our staff – many of whom have personal stories of the care and support provided by the charity - went the extra mile this year in their fundraising efforts, and we’re all incredibly proud to have supported the team at the Beatson in the vital work they do.”
Joyce Ross, partnerships fundraising manager for the Beatson, said: “A huge thank you to WSHA for their overwhelming support throughout 2024. It’s been an absolute pleasure to work with the West of Scotland team - you certainly put the FUN into fundraising!”
WSHA’s corporate charity for 2025 is Alzheimer Scotland, Scotland’s national dementia charity. Alzheimer Scotland aim is to make sure nobody faces dementia alone, providing support and information to people with dementia, their carers and families, campaigning for the rights of people with dementia and funding vital dementia research.
