A powerful 40 metre mural exploring the subject of tackling sectarianism has been unveiled on London Road in the shadow of Celtic Park and the Emirates Arena.

The mural was created by renowned Glasgow street art group Art Pistol and Rogue One, one of Glasgow’s most famous street artists and features inspirational ideas and poetry developed by local young people.

The mural is the culmination of West of Scotland Housing Association’s (WSHA) Better Futures Tackling Sectarianism Project funded by the Scottish Government and delivered in partnership with Xchange Scotland, South Camlachie Youth Project (SCYP) and Art Pistol.

The project aimed to raise awareness of the negative effects that sectarianism has on communities. It involved young people living in Barrowfield, Glasgow, and used games, arts and crafts and sport to explore sectarianism and to challenge the negative attitudes and behaviours related to this.

Maisie O’Brien, regeneration services manager at WSHA, said: “The mural represents the legacy of the project and does so in a fun, creative and meaningful way. WSHA wants the mural to be a powerful and thought provoking piece of art work that reflects the ideas and imagery developed by the young people within the local community. The location is perfect for highlighting the positive work of the project and the importance of tackling sectarianism within wider communities.”
