West Whitlawburn Housing Cooperative announces 6th year of frozen energy prices
West Whitlawburn Housing Co-operative (WWHC) has announced its 6th year in a row of frozen energy prices.
WWHC first became a not-for-profit Energy Supply Company (ESCO) in 2014 and since then it has yet to enforce a price increase to its tenant/members.
WWHC supplies over 500 homes with renewable energy, by the burning of wood pellets from their onsite energy centre, this has been a massive improvement from the original storage heaters which were in place before.
This system has an estimated saving of 1600 tonnes of carbon per year and 2020 marks the 6th year in a row of frozen prices which for an area hit with hardship is a significant marker.
Paul Farrell, director, said: “At a time when so many of our tenant/members are facing real hardship and poverty, WWHC, has once again, acted to alleviate some of the pressures on family budgets by freezing charges. Our management committee and staff deserve great credit for deciding to become a not-for-profit energy supplier back in 2014 and our tenant/members have reaped the benefit of that decision for the past 6 years in frozen prices.”
