Westpoint Homes acquires new development opportunity in the Gorbals
Westpoint Homes has purchased a city centre residential development site with detailed planning permission for 92 units, just one mile south east of Glasgow City Centre at Old Rutherglen Road in the Gorbals area.
Savills represented the vendor, View Castle (Properties Limited) in the sale, which generated a competitive closing date. The site lies less than one mile from Glasgow city centre and features four former office buildings, including a B Listed mill with ample car parking.
The existing planning consent includes conversion of the Listed mill to create loft style flats with spectacular views across Glasgow City Centre and Glasgow Green. The buildings fronting Commercial Street will be replaced with two new apartment blocks and a Class 1 retail unit to replace the existing modern buildings on the eastern boundary.
Emma Biggin of Savills development team, said: “The southern side of the River Clyde has experienced significant regeneration in recent years, with the ongoing residential developments at nearby Laurieston, Tradeston and Cathcart Road bringing budding new communities to the outskirts of the city. Westpoint’s new development will essentially become part of this exciting new enclave in Scotland largest city.”
