Wheatley Homes Glasgow has bought four new-build properties from Cruden Homes at Drumchapel in the north-west of Glasgow.  

The three-bedroom homes at Cleddans Grove were part of a development of 44 houses for private sale.  

Thanks to support funding of £580,000 from Glasgow City Council’s Affordable Housing Supply Programme, Wheatley Homes Glasgow purchased four semi-detached homes, which are being made available for social rent.    

Claire Doyle and her two sons Jae, 20, and Jak, 13, moved into one of the four new homes in Drumchapel. Claire, 41, a full-time cleaner, said: “We previously lived in a two-bedroom flat, but we were living on top of each other. The new home, with the extra bedroom, has meant the boys now have their own rooms. That’s made life a lot easier. It’s been what we’ve been needing for a long time.”  

She added: “We’ve lots of lovely walking areas around here too. The move has made life 10 times more amazing. We have a big kitchen now with a dining table and chairs, so we can have family round at Christmas time. We wouldn’t have been able to do that in the last place.”  

The four homes include solar panels to help reduce tenants’ energy bills. They also come with gas central heating, sprinkler systems for fire safety and induction cookers.  

Lindsay Lauder, Wheatley Group’s director of development and regeneration, added: “We are always looking at new and innovative ways to increase the number of affordable homes available in communities, such as Drumchapel. This includes purchasing homes directly from house builders or even bringing empty homes back into use. 

“There is a strong demand for larger family homes across Glasgow and we know that they can make such a difference to our customers, like Claire and her family.”  

Last week, parent organisation Wheatley Group announced an extra 1000 homes for local authorities to help deal with the housing emergency across the country. This is in addition to the 10,000 homes already committed by Wheatley Group by 2026 for homeless people. Wheatley Group’s work to tackle homelessness also includes 60% of all its new lets in the central belt each year being offered to homeless people.
