Winter Wonderland Festive Trail launches across Aberdeen and North East
Aberdeen Cyrenians is launching its festive light trail today with homes across the city shining a light on homelessness and the vital role of ‘home’ during 2020.
With participants from across Aberdeen and beyond, the shining and merry homes and community locations taking part will be available as a festive map to download from the charity’s website for a small donation. The funds will then help to continue supporting some of the most vulnerable people in Aberdeen who have struggled during the pandemic without a safe place to call home.
Photos and locations will also be included on Facebook with vouchers and a bottle of fizz for the wonderland that receives the most likes. Participating houses, offices and community buildings may also set up JustGiving fundraising pages so that visitors can make a QR donation. The location raising the most donations will also win a prize.
Emma Bellu, fundraising and communications manager at Aberdeen Cyrenians, said: “Everyone needs a safe place to call home, but sadly as this pandemic has highlighted, not everyone is safe or has a place they can call home. Anyone can be affected, and the pandemic has pushed many into crisis.
“This year we’ve helped people move from cycles of homelessness to settled and secure housing they can truly call home. We’ve helped people flee abuse, ensuring they have not only what they need to survive, but helping them to recover and thrive. We’ve helped people with mental health and addiction challenges to weather the pandemic restrictions, stay safe, and keep the roof over their heads.
“Home has been at the heart of all our lives this year so, we’re delighted that people across the city have embraced the celebration and are sharing our message of hope for a brighter future.”
The map can be downloaded from the Aberdeen Cyrenians website and locations will be shared for free on Facebook from Monday.
