Video: Women leaders highlight Horizon Housing’s commitment to inclusive communities
Marking this International Women’s Day, the women leaders of Horizon Housing have discussed the organisation’s commitment to inspiring inclusion in housing and empowering the voices of residents.
Frances Wood, board member, highlighted Horizon’s core belief that everyone deserves a home suited to their needs within a supportive community. The organisation offers bespoke solutions through access ownership, designing tailored housing for individuals with personal funding or grants.
Ms Wood said: “We can actually design a bespoke solution for somebody to allow them to be included in the local community and to live independently. I think that’s fantastic.”
Board member Jill Pritchard praised Horizon’s accessible housing network formed post-COVID, which brings together partners across health, social care, and the third sector.
Ms Pritchard said: “In these times of financial constraints that we are living in at the moment it is really important that housing is seen as a key plank of the whole kind of strategy of enabling people to live their best lives.”
Fellow board member Dr Rachael Docking commended Horizon for actively including tenants’ voices through board representation and engaging residents to understand their experiences and needs better.
Horizon Housing Ambassador Aileen Neilson emphasised the importance of true inclusion where voices are heard and respected. “It makes them feel respected and valued,” she said of Horizon’s approach.
Board member Rowena Statt noted Horizon’s inclusive and collaborative methods position them well for innovative solutions in a rapidly changing world with climate change and an ageing population.
