Work to deliver a further 22 homes to a Fife Council development in Cellardyke is now underway.

The third phase of homes for rent at Silverdykes, which will bring the total number on the development to 57, will be made up of four 1-bed cottage flats, eight 2-bed cottage flats, four 2-bed houses and six 3-bed houses.

Cllr Judy Hamilton, executive spokesperson for housing & building services, visited the site to see how it’s growing.

She said: “I was here late last year to meet some tenants who had settled in wonderfully to their new homes as part of the first phase of this development. This is a lovely housing estate and it’s great to be back today to see it growing further to deliver more much needed affordable housing in the North East Fife area.”

Construction work on the second phase of homes is almost complete with the first of the 14 homes planned for handover at the end of this month. It will be a mix of cottage flats, bungalows and three & four bed-houses.

Cellardyke phase three2Cllr Hamilton added: “As with the rest of the programme, these new homes will be energy efficient and adapted to suit the needs of their tenants, where needed. Where possible, we’ll also be allocating them to existing tenants which means that, in turn, we can free up their old homes for other people and families to benefit from.

“Our Fife-wide Affordable Housing Programme, that will build 2,700 new homes by 2017, is gathering pace with almost half of the homes already built and occupied.”

The third phase of homes in Cellardyke, which are being built by Muir Homes, is expected to be ready to welcome their first tenants in late 2016.

Alastair White, managing director of Muir Homes, added: “We are delighted to begin work on our third Fife Council housing development at Anstruther. The previously completed 21 houses and flats were a great success and we have no doubt that the ongoing 14 houses and flats plus the recently started 22 houses and flats will be another example of Fife Council and Muir Homes successfully working in partnership.”

The second phase of homes in this development received a contribution of £196,000 of Scottish Government funding.
