Work starts on new housing development in West Lothian

West Lothian CouncilThe construction of another new council housing development in West Lothian is now underway.

The 36-home development will see a mix of cottage flats and semi-detached homes/bungalows built in the Core Development Area (CDA) at Calderwood, East Calder.

The design of the Almondell part of the Calderwood CDA is being led by Stirling Development and involves partnerships with various private sector house builders including Charles Church, Taylor Wimpey, Stewart Milne and Persimmon Homes.

George Paul, executive councillor for services for the community, said: “We are delighted to see the development of new homes for rent at Almondell, East Calder, taking place.

“Affordable housing is in high demand throughout Scotland and West Lothian is no different in that respect. The new housing at Almondell will deliver affordable and conveniently located homes for West Lothian residents. I look forward to seeing the new homes completed and local residents moving in.”

West Lothian Council is investing around £115 million to build 1,000 new council homes in all nine ward areas.
