Work starts on third phase of Laurieston housing development
Work is officially underway to bring hundreds of affordable homes to a key regeneration site in the Gorbals area of Glasgow’s southside.
Regeneration specialist Urban Union, part of Robertson Group, will deliver 191 homes at their Laurieston Living site, which has already benefited from 537 new homes and apartments. The new houses will be an array of one and two-bedroom apartments, and three and four-bedroom houses.
Set to complete in Summer 2026, phase 3 of Laurieston Living forms part of the wider Laurieston Transformational Regeneration Area (TRA), a £140 million revitalisation as part of the Transforming Communities: Glasgow (TC:G) is a programme that aims to regenerate eight key neighbourhoods across the city.
To mark the start of construction work, a ceremonial sod cutting has taken place at the site where the homes will be built over the next few years.
Representatives from Urban Union and Glasgow City Council came together to commemorate this milestone.
Neil McKay, managing director of Urban Union, said: “It’s an exciting moment for the Urban Union team to officially launch phase 3 of Laurieston Living and help serve the growing community and meet demand for high-quality, affordable homes.
“We have already successfully delivered hundreds of homes at our Laurieston Living development in the Gorbals area which has proved extremely popular with residents.
“It was a pleasure to welcome all of our partners down to the site today to mark the beginning of what I’m sure will be another successful stage for the area.”
Fraser Stewart, director, New Gorbals Housing Association, said: “We are delighted to see the next phase of regeneration at Laurieston get underway. Urban Union has done an excellent job so far, and we’re looking forward to their development of more high-quality housing for individuals and families who need it.”
Councillor Kenny McLean, convener for housing at Glasgow City Council, said: “The Laurieston development is an excellent example of community living in Glasgow. The diverse offering of flats and houses will provide high-quality new homes for a range of needs, while also contributing to the regeneration of the area. This is another good example of the difference being made to neighbourhoods in the city through effective partnership working.”
Phase 3 will also consist of a vibrant new civic park for the community, to enhance the residential development providing exciting new amenities for the community.
