Young apprentice awards Waverley

Waverley HousingWaverley housing has spoken of its delight in seeing many of its young talents being recognised at the recent 2016 Scottish Federation of Housing Association’s (SFHA) Apprentice Challenge.

The event, supported by Skills Development Scotland, tasked 19 young people from across Scotland with producing a video diary of their apprenticeships. They were asked to showcase themselves, their organisation and they work that they carry out in Scotland, these were then presented at the SFHA Annual Conference earlier this month.

Rachel Hunter is in her 2nd year of a Business & Administration Apprentice with Waverley and was awarded runner up at the awards. Initially recruited as a Customer Services Assistant, Rachel took an opportunity for career development, being successfully appointed as a temporary Housing Assistant in October 2015 which she is thoroughly enjoying.

Margaret Ross, chief executive of Waverley Housing said: “We’re very proud of Rachel and the superb progress she has made. Waverley has supported the apprenticeship programme for a number of years and recognises the importance of creating opportunities for young people within the Scottish Borders and helping them to develop skills and expertise that will sustain them in their careers. This combined with us being crowned ‘Scottish Modern Apprentice Employer of the Year’ (employers with less than 250 employees) in November 2015, and our recent visit by Paul Wheelhouse MSP in March to launch ‘Scottish Apprenticeship Week 2016’ demonstrates our commitment to the apprenticeship programme.”
