Equalities Update (Refresher)

Who is it for and what is it about?
The Equalities Act 2010 is now 15 years old, and the equalities landscape and conversation has moved on significantly since its’ inauguration.
This short course is designed to bring housing staff up-to-date on all things equalities including: the expectations of the Scottish Housing Regulator, the principles of equality impact assessments; discussion of how to protect groups specifically covered with the Equality Act (i.e. gender pronouns, financial vulnerable); increased Expectations to embed Human Rights into the work of associations, how the new sexual harassment legislation sits within the equalities framework; and how organisations can ensure that their publications, policies and procedures are as inclusive as possible.

• Collecting and using equalities data
• Creating and using equality impact assessments
• Embedding Human Rights into the work of associations
Learning Outcomes
On completion of this session, delegates will:
• Have a better understanding of the current Equalities and Human Rights landscape
• Be able to produce equality impact assessments for the activities they undertake
• Have an increased understanding of how equality data can be used monitor the diversity of staff, tenants and committees and influence the work of associations
• Have an increased understanding of the importance Human Rights Act and some ways this can be incorporated into the work of associations
• Be able to review their own organisational practices in equalities and ensure good practice is being followed.
