Fundamentals of Factoring

Fundamentals of factoring is a Share training programme which has the benefit of being endorsed by The Property Institute (TPI). Completion of this programme leads to Associate membership of the TPI which will allow learners upon successful completion to use the postnominal (ATPI) within their literature and email signatures.
This programme, which consists of six modules, has been designed for all staff involved in the delivery of factoring services, including property managers; surveyors, housing assistants, finance officers and assistants, customer service staff, repairs and maintenance officers, as well as those involved in the management of complaints and regulatory compliance. 

TPI is the UK’s leading professional property management body offering qualifications and accreditation. Share is the only organisation in Scotland delivering this nationally recognised TPI course. Students can elect to attend individual classes but must attend all six and pass the assessment to gain certification. The six modules comprise of:

Module 1 – The fundamentals of property management – an introduction 

This module will increase your basic knowledge of factoring and property management in Scotland, from its early beginnings to where it is now. As well as to increase your understanding of title deeds and Deeds of Condition and the role that property factors had in their development to become the documents that are used today.

Module 2 – The fundamentals of the legal framework in a factoring operation 

This module will increase your basic knowledge of legislation in relation to deeds and housing management and provide you with the skills and knowledge required of a property factor in order to be compliant with the code of conduct and other legislation that gives you the right to act.

Module 3 – The fundamentals of a factor’s financial obligations

This module will increase your basic knowledge of financial management of a factoring business and provide you with the underpinning knowledge of the legislation that compels a factor to adhere to when managing owners’ monies.

Module 4 – The fundamentals of building maintenance and managing repairs in common property

This module will provide you with the underpinning knowledge required when carrying out repairs and maintenance to factored properties in Scotland as well as, what the duty to maintain is and the role that property factors in Scotland play. 

Module 5 – The fundamentals of customer service excellence and meeting standards 

This module will help you to understand and be aware of the importance of both Health and Safety and Fire Safety within the day-to-day management of mix-tenured property in Scotland. As well as understand the role played by the owner and their ultimate responsibilities and obligations for the Health and Safety in the day-to-day management of their property and their agent. You will also explore the importance of clear communication with duty holders and highlighting their responsibilities when requesting management of their building.

Module 6 – The fundamentals of delivering a factoring service

This module will explore through case studies the role of a property factor in Scotland taking you through the full end-end management of a new development. You will be exploring concepts learned from previous modules or your current role as a property factor in Scotland.
