The Scottish Housing Regulator: What Committee/Board need to know

Who’s it for and what’s it about

All Committee/Board members will know that the Scottish Housing Regulator regulates their organisations, but what does this mean?  How does the regulator regulate?  This course is designed for committee members, new and established, with the aim of providing clarity about the role and power of the SHR in relation to their organisation.

Course content:

    • The history/context of regulation in the social housing sector
    • The focus and remit of the regulator
    • The regulatory standards
    • Arc, data collection, engagement and how the regulator regulates
    • The powers of the regulator to intervene
    • SHR expectations of committee/board

Learning Outcomes

On completion of this course delegates will:

    • Have a better understanding of the roles/responsibilities of the SHR
    • Know how the SHR uses data like the ARC to assess organisational effectiveness
    • Be able to identify issues which will cause regulatory involvement
    • Understand the different levels of regulatory involvement and the implications of these
    • Appreciate where the assurance statement and their role as board members fits into the overall framework of regulation
