The Housing First Scotland Pathfinder programme launched officially in April 2019 in Aberdeen/shire, Dundee, Edinburgh, Glasgow and Stirling after a ramping-up period from August 2018, two years ago this week, when the first tenants moved into properties in Glasgow allocated to the fledgeling Pathfinder. The Salvation Army has been providing Housing First support in the city since then and today continues alongside partner organisations in the Housing First Consortium in Glasgow. Robert Kennedy – Housing First support worker with The Salvation Army, describes his experience over the past two years.

The combined data on the Housing First Scotland Pathfinder programme is now available covering both April and May, when housing allocations all but stopped. Significant additional pressure across the public and charity sectors, including organisations delivering support to tenants, has been on a scale unseen previously. Homeless Network Scotland manages the Pathfinder and produces the normally monthly Tracker report. Its head of external relations, Martin Gavin, looks at what this latest one tells us.

Housing First marks first year with ambition for ‘rapid scaling up’ and prevention of post-COVID homelessness
A year after Scotland’s Housing First Pathfinder was officially launched discussions are taking place between senior figures in housing, homelessness and government to significantly scale-up the programme and prevent anyone returning to the streets who has been accommodated in hotels and short-term lets under current emergency measures.
