Work is to begin on building 250 affordable homes in Moray this year.
Construction has started at Springfield’s affordable housing development at Hopeman in Morayshire with housing minister Kevin Stewart in attendance to mark the occasion. The private and affordable developer will be building 22 affordable homes, just off Forsyth Road in the seaside village.
A potential developer is being sought to deliver a £15.5 million regeneration project in Elgin. The Bilbohall masterplan, which was approved by Moray Council in November, outlines plans for 382 new homes for the south of the town, taking shape near the newly-built Elgin High School.
Planning approval has been granted for 50 new council homes to be built in Elgin. Members of Moray Council’s communities committee unanimously agreed to accept a tender from Springfield Properties to build the homes at Glassgreen on the south of Elgin.
Thirty new council homes are to be built in Mosstodloch. Councillors this morning approved the application for affordable housing on the 1.9 hectare site at Stynie Road, currently used as agricultural land.
Rents for tenants of council houses in Moray will be frozen for the next 12 months. In previous years rents were increased by between 4% and 5% a year to help fund the council’s new-build programme.

A range of measures to get Moray Council closer to balancing its budget for 2019/20 were debated by councillors this week. The measures, which are expected to lead to a reduction of over 110 posts across a range of services, include shutting two swimming pools, some libraries and public toilets.
